Fungi Fest Lights Up Pier Park
Residents and visitors packed Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park on Saturday for Fungi Fest 2025, an annual showcase hosted by the Ministry of Culture. Local bands performed a full lineup of fungi favourites and the lighting of the Christmas tree signalled the start of the territory’s holiday season.
Culture, music and community spirit filled Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park on Saturday as Fungi Fest 2025 drew a strong turnout from residents and visitors across the Virgin Islands. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, the annual festival celebrated the territory’s signature fungi tradition — a homegrown musical style that blends rhythm, storytelling and West Indian influences.
Attendees enjoyed performances from a full lineup of local favourites, including Four Strong, Zion Sounds, Razor Blades, Two Brain Cells, Lashing Dogs, Stanley, NTCG Fungi Band, Family String Band and Honey Bees. Each band brought its own flavour to the stage, keeping the crowd dancing and laughing into the night.
For many in the BVI, Fungi Fest is more than a concert; it is an important platform for local musicians and a reminder of cultural heritage that has been passed through generations. A major highlight of the evening was the official lighting of the Christmas tree at Pier Park. The switch-on was presented as the symbolic start of the territory’s holiday festivities, drawing families and shoppers who gathered to celebrate the season together.
