Seven million dollars has been allocated to reopen the R. O’Neal Administration Complex in 2027, nearly a decade after Hurricane Irma forced government offices out of the building. Natalio Wheatley announced the funding during his 2027 Budget Address last week. “Seven million dollars have been allocated for the reopening of the R.

O’Neal Administration Complex,” he stated. The allocation comes amid concerns over prolonged repairs and the cost of accommodating public offices in rented premises since the September 2017 hurricane. Wheatley recently disclosed in the House of Assembly that the Government had spent $18,387,596.26 on rent since August 2017.

Rental expenditure for 2026 alone was approximately $3.6 million. Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn pressed for accurate figures, noting that his questions had been on the Order Paper since July. Minister for Communications and Works Kye Rymer also told the House that tenders for works at the complex were before Cabinet for approval.

Although the Budget announcement provides funding towards reopening the complex next year, Wheatley did not specify a reopening date in those remarks.
