Government Begins Cane Garden Bay Sewer Upgrades
The Government of the Virgin Islands has announced the start of extensive sewerage infrastructure works along the Cane Garden Bay road corridor. The phased project aims to replace aging utility systems and will require temporary single-lane traffic restrictions in affected areas.
Major infrastructure improvements are underway along the Cane Garden Bay road corridor as the Government of the Virgin Islands initiates critical sewerage works aimed at modernizing the area's utility network. According to an advisory issued by the Government Information Service, the project will begin at the foot of Cane Garden Bay Hill, near Hodge’s Gas Station, and progress along the roadway toward De Wedding.
The comprehensive scope of work encompasses the installation of gravity sewer mains and submains, modern pump and lift stations, new manholes, and utility kiosks. The project also includes planned road reinstatement once underground installations are complete, alongside targeted environmental protection measures to prevent disruption to the surrounding coastal ecosystem.
To ensure uninterrupted service continuity for residents, commercial establishments, and visitors in the popular coastal hub, construction activities will be carried out in sequential segments. This phased execution allows the contractor to systematically decommission, remove, and safely dispose of the existing, aged lift-station network without compromising ongoing waste management operations.
Motorists and commuters traveling through Cane Garden Bay are advised that traffic flow will be restricted to a single lane within active work zones. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, exercise heightened caution, anticipate minor delays, and strictly follow the directions of on-site traffic management personnel and road signage throughout the duration of the works.
