Government Seeks Naturopath for Allied Health Council
The Government of the Virgin Islands’ Ministry of Health and Social Development has issued vacancy notices seeking a registered naturopath to serve on the Allied Health Professionals Council and a Chairperson and members for the BVI Health Services Authority Board, with applications closing 15 December 2025 (source: Government of the Virgin Islands). The Government of the Virgin Islands’ Ministry of Health and Social Development is inviting qualified health professionals to apply for two public appointments: a registered naturopath to serve on the Allied Health Professionals Council and a Chairperson and members for the BVI Health Services Authority Board.
Both application windows close on 15 December 2025 (Government of the Virgin Islands). The vacancy for the Allied Health Professionals Council seeks a registered naturopath to join the Council, which was established under the Medical Act, 2000 and is now cited as the Medical, Dental and Allied Health Practitioners Act, 2000 as amended (Government of the Virgin Islands).
The Council considers applications for registration of allied health practitioners and provides direction on the rights, liabilities and obligations of such practitioners. Its work supports standards of practice and public safety across the Territory. Applicants for the Council seat must be registered naturopaths and are expected to demonstrate professional competencies that exemplify integrity, respect and a balance of skills and experience to support the Council�s purpose (Government of the Virgin Islands).
Members, other than the Chief Medical Officer, hold office for three years and are eligible for reappointment. No member other than the Chief Medical Officer may serve more than two consecutive terms, though they may be reappointed after a one-year break, as set out in the Act. In an update to the original notice, the Government has also advertised a separate vacancy for the BVI Health Services Authority Board, seeking a Chairperson and additional board members (Government of the Virgin Islands).
The BVI Health Services Authority, established under the BVI Health Services Authority Act, 2004, oversees the strategic direction and policy for the Dr. Orlando Smith Hospital and community health services. The Board is responsible for ensuring programmes and services promote and protect health, driving continuous improvement in quality of care, and overseeing proper management of the Authority�s resources.
Those applying to the BVIHSA Board should bring a balanced mix of relevant skills and experience and must commit to confidentiality, integrity, good governance, discretion and sound judgement. With the exception of Public Officers, Board members receive stipends at rates determined by the House of Assembly (Government of the Virgin Islands).
