Government Seeks Vendors for Healthy School Meal
The Government of the Virgin Islands is inviting tenders for the rental of two food kiosks at Elmore Stoutt High School, aiming to provide approximately 1,400 students with healthy meal options. Interested vendors must adhere to nutritional guidelines and operational standards, with submissions due by September 26, 2025.
In a bid to enhance the nutritional offerings available to students, the Government of the Virgin Islands has announced an invitation for tenders to operate two food vendor kiosks at Elmore Stoutt High School in Road Town, Tortola. This initiative, overseen by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, seeks to ensure that the approximately 1,400 students at the school have access to balanced and healthy meal options in accordance with school guidelines and Environmental Health standards.
The successful applicants will need to deliver a menu that features baked or grilled meats, fresh vegetables, healthy snacks, and natural fruit juices, explicitly excluding soda and fried foods. Each meal is to be priced no higher than $10.00, making nutritious options affordable for the student body.
Operations are restricted to designated times around lunch hours, ensuring no disruption to instructional time, and vendors are also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their areas. A mandatory site visit on September 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. will allow tenderers to assess the site and understand the specifics of the required services, including equipment, materials, and labor needs.
Applicants must possess a valid trade license and food handler’s certificate, agree to a standard vendor fee of $350 per school term for Government-constructed stalls, and be prepared to commence services from October 1, 2025, for the duration of one school year. Tender submissions must include relevant food service experience, a weekly menu proposal, agreement to the vendor fee, and copies of the required certificates.
The highest evaluated tenderer will be invited to negotiate a contract, with all proposals due by 10:00 AM on September 26, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered, and the Government reserves the right to accept or reject any or all tenders at any point. This initiative not only aims to provide students with healthier food options but also offers an opportunity for local vendors to engage with the community and contribute to the well-being of its younger members.
