Governor to Appoint Security Advisor Early 2026
Governor Pruce says his office is recruiting a senior strategic security advisor to strengthen the territory's security and justice work, with the post expected to be filled in early 2026. The role, promised at the September anti-crime summit, will be fully funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Governor Pruce has announced that his office is in the process of identifying a senior strategic security advisor who should be in place in the early part of 2026. The announcement follows a commitment he made at the anti-crime summit held September 24-26, 2025, and the governor said the appointment will strengthen the territory’s work in the security and justice sectors. "We are in the process of identifying an individual that could fulfill that role.
I would hope to have them in place in the early part of next year, and I think that would bring significant benefit across the board to the work that we are doing in the security and justice space," Governor Pruce said. He described the intended post as a senior, experienced security professional who will provide expert guidance and support on safety and security matters affecting the Virgin Islands.
Crucially for local stakeholders, Governor Pruce confirmed the position will be fully funded by the United Kingdom through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). That funding arrangement means the appointment will not impose a direct cost on BVI taxpayers for the advisor’s salary and associated expenses.
Officials say the advisor’s remit will include strategic oversight, advice on policy and operations, and support for coordination among local law enforcement, justice institutions and regional partners. Although specific duties and the selection timetable have not been published, the governor indicated the role is intended to be a significant enhancement to the office’s capacity to address crime and public safety challenges.
The pledge follows discussions and commitments made at the anti-crime summit, where leaders and stakeholders emphasised the need for stronger strategic leadership and support to tackle crime across the territory. For residents, the new post is aimed at bolstering local efforts to make communities safer while improving collaboration between the Governor’s Office, local authorities and external partners.
Governor Pruce said work remains under way to identify a suitable candidate and that further details will be provided as the appointment process progresses toward the hoped-for early 2026 start date.
