Governor's Cup Champion Ghostinyou Falls Short in
In a surprising turn of events, the 2024 Governor's Cup winner, Ghostinyou, owned by Lesmore Smith of Top Priority Racing Stables, did not place in the recent Labour Day Races in St. Thomas, finishing fourth. The winning title was claimed by Grand Tower of No Limit Racing Stables, with Ghostinyou being the sole competitor from Tortola.
The highly anticipated Labour Day Races in St. Thomas concluded with unexpected outcomes for the British Virgin Islands' horse racing enthusiasts. Lesmore Smith's Ghostinyou, the pride of Top Priority Racing Stables and the 2024 Governor’s Cup champion, aimed to reclaim Virgin Islands pride but fell short, finishing in fourth place in a race with a $20,000 purse.
Despite high hopes and significant anticipation, Ghostinyou, ridden by jockey A. Williams, could not challenge the race leaders throughout the event. The race was dominated by Grand Tower, representing No Limit Racing Stables, who took the lead early under the guidance of Puerto Rican jockey Mix Adorno and maintained it to finish first.
The competition was fierce with Emmett and Ice Road securing the second and third places, respectively, after staying in close pursuit throughout the race. This year's Labour Day Races featured eight exciting races, with the feature clash seeing Floki’s Flight overcoming Pure Speight.
Among these, Ghostinyou was the only horse from Tortola to compete, carrying the hopes of the BVI on its shoulders. The participation of Ghostinyou in such a competitive field highlights the level of horse racing talent within the British Virgin Islands and the strong sporting connections between the BVI and neighboring Caribbean communities.
