Grenada Eliminates Cavaliers from T10 Cup
Grenada chased down Cavaliers’ 104 with ease in Greenland to knock the BVI side out of the BVICA Peter Haycraft T10 Cup, handing Cavaliers their first 0-3 start in any BVICA competition. A Grenadian batsman finished unbeaten on 48 as the visitors reached 110 in 7.5 overs; Cavaliers captain Gavin Hitnarine top-scored with 45 in a disappointing batting collapse.
Grenada secured a seven-wicket victory over the Cavaliers in Greenland on Sunday to eliminate the BVI side from the BVICA Peter Haycraft T10 Cup, ending Cavaliers’ long run of semifinal appearances across BVICA formats. Cavaliers were sent in and posted a modest 104 all out in 9.1 overs.
Captain and opener Gavin Hitnarine rescued the innings with an aggressive 45 after two early ducks in the tournament, but he received little support as the other nine batters combined for just 50 runs. Grenada’s bowlers struck early and repeatedly to keep Cavaliers on the back foot.
Avishkar Sewkarran produced a crucial burst up front, removing three batters in quick succession, while the Grenadian attack collectively kept a tight line and length to restrict the hosts. In reply, Grenada raced to 110 for 3 in 7.5 overs to seal the win and even their record at 1-1.
A Grenadian middle-order batsman played a decisive innings, finishing unbeaten on 48 and clearing the ropes several times as the visitors chased comfortably. Reflecting on the match, Hitnarine said Grenada’s disciplined bowling was the difference. “Throughout the innings, they bowled a good line and length and they restricted us to 104,” he said. “Our bowling wasn’t up to standard today.
Defending a small total, we were supposed to bowl much better but we didn’t. We just have to keep working harder to get better results—not only in the next match—but in the future.” Grenada captain Andel Walcott, who contributed in a supporting role, praised the team’s all-round performance. “We had a good start in bowling and batting and we came out successful,” he told Island Sun Sports. “We sent them to bat because when we chase, we always come out victorious and everything worked out as planned.” The result leaves Cavaliers at 0-3 — the first time the side has begun any BVICA campaign with three straight losses — and ends their hopes of reaching the T10 semifinals.
In the other match, Royal Knights chased down defending champions RTW Falcons’ 132 for 3, finishing 135 for 3 in 9.3 overs. Falcons’ Gary Prince top-scored with a stroke-filled 75 supported by Damron Prince’s 40, but Royal Knights’ balanced reply featured a 65 opening stand and a man-of-the-match 41 not out from Yohann Lezama as Royal Knights moved to 2-0 while Falcons fell to 1-2.
Upcoming fixtures see Royal Knights facing Grenada at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, followed by Cavaliers against the Vikings at 2:30 p.m.
