Guyana Gold Mine Earns US$334 Million

Zijin Mining Group generated US$334 million in revenue from Guyana's Aurora Gold Mine during the first half of 2026. The performance reflects a 10 percent year-on-year increase in gold production alongside rising global commodity prices. The operation continues to represent one of the largest single resource extraction projects in the Caribbean region.

Zijin Mining Group, operating through its subsidiary AGM Inc., generated US$334 million in revenue from the Aurora Gold Mine in Guyana during the first six months of 2026. The results, published in the company's recent interim report, highlight the impact of strong global gold prices, asset improvements, and heightened operational output across its mining portfolio.

The Aurora Gold Mine, situated in Guyana's Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), produced approximately 2.2 tonnes of gold during the first half of 2026. This represents a 10 percent year-on-year increase compared to the 2.0 tonnes extracted during the same period in 2025, when operating income stood at just over US$200 million.

In full-year 2025, the facility yielded 4.5 tonnes of gold, generating approximately US$549.1 million in operating income. According to the report, exploration and extraction activities at the site advanced substantially throughout the period. The company completed 11,000 metres of geological drilling and 10,000 metres of in-pit drilling to enhance grade control and ore blending.

Five underground drilling rigs operated continuously during the first six months of the year. The company also implemented new cost-saving measures and recovery methods, including pit and waste-rock backfilling, gravity separation, and carbon fines recovery. To improve energy efficiency and decrease overhead costs, the mine commenced operations of new photovoltaic solar and battery energy storage systems, reducing its ongoing reliance on diesel-generated electricity.

AGM remains Guyana's sole large-scale gold mining operator. Zijin acquired the asset in August 2020 for US$238 million, securing a site with estimated reserves of roughly 184 tonnes, or six million ounces, of gold. For observers in the British Virgin Islands and across the wider Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Guyana's resource sector continues to demonstrate rapid financial expansion.

The sustained growth of large-scale extraction projects underscores the shifting economic dynamics and heightened foreign direct investment entering the regional market.
