Heat Advisory Active Across Virgin Islands

Residents and visitors across the British Virgin Islands are being urged to take precautions against the heat today as temperatures reach peak daytime highs of 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius). A heat advisory is in effect from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., according to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).
Stable atmospheric conditions continue to dominate the local area, resulting in mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Forecasters indicate a low 30 percent chance of brief, light afternoon showers, primarily affecting central and western sections of the Territory. Southeasterly winds are expected to remain moderate, blowing at speeds between 10 and 15 miles per hour.
Marine conditions across the Territory remain relatively calm, with seas running at slight to moderate swells of 2 to 3 feet. While boating conditions are generally favorable, mariners and motorists should remain mindful of isolated showers that could temporarily reduce visibility or create slippery road surfaces.
For tonight, conditions are expected to remain clear to partly cloudy with a lingering 30 percent chance of brief passing showers. In light of the heat advisory, the DDM recommends that the public take proactive steps to prevent heat-related illnesses. Individuals should drink plenty of water throughout the day, avoid prolonged outdoor exertion during the warmest afternoon hours, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing along with hats and sunscreen.
