Residents and visitors across the Virgin Islands should prepare for another warm day with high heat levels and scattered shower activity, according to the latest weather update issued by the Department of Disaster Management. A high-pressure ridge across the northeastern Caribbean continues to maintain generally stable atmospheric conditions over the territory.
However, daytime skies are forecast to range from partly cloudy to cloudy during the early hours, interspersed with occasional bright and sunny spells. Forecasters note a 40 percent chance of showers developing during the afternoon hours before additional moisture moves across the area.
Elevated temperatures remain a major concern throughout the day, particularly during the peak afternoon hours. High temperatures are projected to reach approximately 89 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 degrees Celsius. Authorities urge the public to take precautions against excessive heat by drinking plenty of water, staying in cool or shaded environments, and avoiding prolonged, strenuous outdoor activities during the warmest period of the day.
As evening approaches, weather conditions are expected to become cloudier with a continued 40 percent chance of showers overnight as a tropical wave approaches the territory. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution on the roads this evening, as scattered rainfall can create slick and hazardous driving surfaces.
Marine conditions are forecast to stay generally manageable throughout the forecast period, with wave heights running between 3 and 4 feet (0.9 to 1.2 metres). Winds are blowing from the east at speeds between 13 and 20 miles per hour (21 to 32 kilometres per hour). Small craft operators, mariners, and beachgoers are advised to maintain caution on the water due to moderate easterly breezes.
Boaters should secure loose gear, ensure life jackets are worn, and keep close watch on local marine conditions before and during any open-water activities.
