Normal Emergency Medical Services operations have officially resumed at the Dr. Orlando Smith Hospital following a brief disruption, the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority has confirmed. Health officials announced that services were fully restored by Wednesday morning after contingency plans were activated earlier in the week.
The temporary disruption had required emergency response personnel to operate under an adjusted framework while hospital management finalized preparations to resume standard base operations. During the interim period, emergency coverage was maintained through a coordinated arrangement with the Road Town Fire Station.
Fire service personnel and emergency responders worked in tandem from the station to ensure that emergency response capabilities remained active and accessible to residents across Tortola. Initial projections had indicated that normal EMS workflows would resume starting with the Tuesday evening shift.
Following that scheduled transition, health authority leadership verified that the operational handover was successful and that standard hospital-based deployment is once again fully active. The health authority stressed that emergency reporting protocols remain completely unchanged for the public.
