Hospital Wing Lobby Demolition Works Begin
Demolition works have officially commenced for the Major Peebles Wing Clinics' Lobby renovation at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital. Managed by the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency, the $463,087.20 project aims to modernize the Road Town and Outpatient Clinic lobbies. The upgrades will significantly improve accessibility, operational efficiency, and the overall patient experience.
Demolition works have officially begun for the Major Peebles Wing Clinics' Lobby Renovation project at the Dr. The initiative marks a significant step forward in the ongoing modernization of public healthcare facilities across the British Virgin Islands. The Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) confirmed that the contract for the project was awarded to Supreme Construction Engineering Management Services at a total cost of $463,087.20.
Once completed, the project will deliver a fully renovated and modernized facility, featuring upgraded Road Town and Outpatient Clinic lobbies. According to the RDA, these structural and aesthetic improvements are designed to enhance accessibility, boost operational functionality, and provide a superior experience for visiting patients and staff.
The Major Peebles Wing serves as a critical healthcare hub within the hospital, housing key specialized facilities including the Dental Unit, the Hemodialysis Unit, and the Immigration Clinic. To limit disruption to patients and ongoing medical services, the RDA has established strict working schedules for the construction team.
Approved demolition hours are set from Monday to Friday between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Although general construction tasks are permitted on Sundays between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, no demolition activities will be allowed on that day. Additionally, no construction or demolition work will take place on Saturdays.
The lobby renovation represents part of the territory's broader commitment to enhancing public infrastructure and ensuring that local health facilities meet modern standards of comfort and care for all residents.
