interCaribbean Celebrates 10 Years in BVI
interCaribbean Airways marks a decade of continuous service to the British Virgin Islands since launching flights to T.B. Lettsome International Airport on December 9, 2015. The carrier says it has remained committed through economic and natural challenges and will continue to support BVI connectivity as other airlines adjust their routes.
interCaribbean Airways is marking 10 years of continuous service to the British Virgin Islands, a milestone the airline says underlines its commitment to regional connectivity. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) on December 9, 2015 and has maintained operations through “economic challenges, natural disasters, and industry shifts,” according to a company press release.
Lyndon Gardiner, Chairman of interCaribbean Airways, said the airline made a commitment to the BVI a decade ago and has honoured it every day since: “Ten years ago, we made a commitment to the British Virgin Islands and its people - a commitment we've honoured every day since.” Gardiner noted that while the industry landscape continues to evolve and some carriers have exited routes, interCaribbean’s position remains clear: “We’re here to stay.” The anniversary comes at a notable moment for territory air links.
Caribbean Airlines recently announced it will suspend its route to the VI effective January 2026, leaving interCaribbean as an increasingly important link to regional markets. In its statement, interCaribbean described itself as a “steadfast partner” in ensuring continued access to key destinations throughout the Caribbean.
Trevor Sadler, chief executive officer of interCaribbean Airways, emphasised Tortola’s place in the airline’s network: “Tortola (EIS), in The British Virgin Islands, is an important part of our Caribbean destinations as we continue to build further on this decade-long relationship.” He added that customers rely on the airline for connections whether travelling for business, family visits or short break tourism to hubs such as San Juan, Antigua, Santo Domingo, Sint Maarten and Dominica.
Over the past ten years, interCaribbean says it has carried hundreds of thousands of passengers between the VI and other Caribbean destinations. The airline also remained committed to the market during severe disruptions, including the devastating effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, when connectivity was critical for relief and recovery.
To mark the anniversary, interCaribbean’s VI-based Cacique Rewards members will receive a special gift as part of the ten-year recognition. For BVI residents and businesses, continued scheduled service supports tourism, family ties and commerce — and with route adjustments across the region, interCaribbean’s decade of sustained service reinforces its role in keeping the Territory connected.
