Karia Christopher laid to rest after funeral
Karia J. Christopher, the Government of the Virgin Islands Director of Communications who died suddenly in December, was laid to rest on Saturday, January 10, following a well-attended funeral at Sea Cows Bay Methodist Church, BVI News reports. Christopher, a long-serving public servant and media personality in the Virgin Islands, was laid to rest on Saturday, January 10, following funeral services at Sea Cows Bay Methodist Church, BVI News reported. Christopher passed away suddenly on December 5, 2025, according to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).
She held both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree and built a progressive career in public service and communications. VINO had earlier published funeral arrangements for the service at Sea Cows Bay, noting that viewing began at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service scheduled for 11:00 a.m., and that the ceremony would be carried live by CBN for residents unable to attend.
Those arrangements were followed by the service that BVI News covered on January 10. BVI News photographer Andre 'Shadow' Dawson captured a large photo gallery of the event and reported that scores of mourners turned out to pay their respects. Family members — including her husband, children, mother and siblings — delivered heartfelt tributes, with remarks emphasising Christopher's devotion to family and the deep bonds she shared with loved ones.
Tributes also came from across the political divide. BVI News reported that several members of the House of Assembly from both the government and the parliamentary opposition spoke in remembrance, underlining the wide respect she commanded in public life. Christopher's public-sector career included a number of senior roles.
VINO described her earlier roles as Sister Islands Coordinator and Director of Human Resources and Administration at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC). BVI News added that she had also served as Director of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs, Sister Islands Programme Coordinator, and Chief Administrative Officer at the TRC.
Since 2023 she had acted in the post of Director of Communications for the Government of the Virgin Islands and, VINO reports, was officially confirmed in that position in August 2025. She was also known locally as the host of the programme Real Talk, where she interviewed personalities from many walks of life.
Reports identify her surviving family in slightly different terms: VINO listed a husband named Rory, two daughters, Dakota and Hunter, and her mother; BVI News named her husband as Robelto and listed children Hunter and Dakota, mother Delrice Mactavious, sister Jan Christopher, brother Jarel Smith, and other relatives.
