A decade of creative community-building, cultural preservation, and professional development will take center stage next month as Kickin It marks its 10th anniversary with a two-day creative retreat at Long Bay Beach Resort in Tortola. Scheduled for October 17 and 18, the landmark event will bring together creatives, entrepreneurs, cultural leaders, and community members for a weekend dedicated to career growth, cultural connection, and wellness.
Coinciding with Heroes and Foreparents Day weekend, the celebration is structured around the theme "Currently in Flow State," drawing inspiration from the ocean to balance focused professional work with rest and rejuvenation. The weekend will also feature the third and final edition of the Kickin It Honors, celebrating influential figures across music, media, film, and creative entrepreneurship.
This year's honorees include Barbadian DJ and producer DJ Puffy (Global Influence), Haitian media personality Jessie Woo (Culture Keeper), Nuclei founder DonYé Taylor and podcaster Rush Cam (Creative Catalyst), CultureCon CEO Imani Ellis (Trailblazer), and St. The Rising Star awards will recognize Anegada nature photographer Rondel Smith alongside VI Crawl artists Nyaila Callwood and Khalarni Rivers.
Saturday, October 17, will serve as Focus Day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule includes mainstage panels, technology presentations, speed networking, interactive pitch sessions, and live micro-grant awards distributed through The Flow State Fund. Individual passes for Saturday are available for $70, alongside duo and group packages.
The gathering will transition on Sunday, October 18, to Flow Day, a free public wellness experience open to both resort guests and the wider Virgin Islands community from 6 a.m. to noon. Spanning five dedicated coastal zones, activities will feature a community walk and run, sound baths, guided movement, pickleball, community circles, and craft workshops.
Kickin It founder Kyra James Douglas noted that the milestone provides a key moment to invest back into the creative ecosystem. Over the past decade, the organization has watched the regional creative community expand exponentially, and the retreat aims to provide creators with practical tools for the future while maintaining a collaborative space for rest.
