Legendary Bands at Carrot Bay
Two of the Virgin Islands' most celebrated bands, The Bad Ones and Latitude Stars, reunite for a special Saturday edition of Cultural Thursdays in Carrot Bay on Saturday, 23rd May. The evening will feature live performances, a fresh market, cultural foods, games, and ground transportation for Virgin Gorda residents.
Carrot Bay will host a night of music, culture and nostalgia when legendary local groups The Bad Ones and Latitude Stars perform on Saturday, 23rd May as part of a special Saturday edition of Cultural Thursdays. The Bad Ones, led by the iconic Frett brothers and friends, will reunite to perform classics that shaped an era for the Territory.
Formed in East End, Tortola during the late 1960s and early 1970s, the group became one of the BVI's most popular entertainment acts, known for covering international stars such as The Beatles, The Jackson 5 and The Rolling Stones. The band was also among the early local groups to weave reggae into their repertoire at a time when the genre was still emerging across the Caribbean.
Also on the bill are Latitude Stars, the North Sound, Virgin Gorda outfit that helped define the musical identity of what was once called "Musical City" Virgin Gorda. Founding member Clinton Farrington remembers being just 15 years old when the band started. With Clinton Farrington, Jerry and their crew expected to deliver smooth ballads, rhythm and blues, reggae, soca and dance favourites, Latitude Stars remain a fixture of the Territory's entertainment scene.
The special Saturday edition of Cultural Thursdays will keep the event's usual family-friendly offerings. A fresh market opens at 3:00 p.m., followed by cultural races and games hosted by Shadow at 4:00 p.m. The Bad Ones are scheduled to take the stage at 5:30 p.m., with Latitude Stars to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Cultural foods and drinks will be available throughout the evening. Ground transportation will be provided for Virgin Gorda residents travelling to and from Carrot Bay. Organisers say the evening promises old-school music, culture and family fun, offering an opportunity for long-time residents to reconnect with familiar sounds and for younger audiences to experience a significant chapter of the Territory's musical history.
