Lion Heart Edge Wolues 3-2
Lion Heart held on for a 3-2 win over Wolues in BVIFA weekend action as Islanders remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over shorthanded Positive. The weekend also saw Panthers rout Old Madrid 10-0, VG United beat Rebels 5-2, and Sugar Boys thump Avengers 6-0.
Lion Heart survived a late Wolues surge to claim a 3-2 victory in BVIFA weekend play, while Islanders stayed perfect with a 3-0 win over a shorthanded Positive, according to a report by Dean "The Sportsman" Greenaway of The Island Sun. Tavoy Thomas opened the scoring for Lion Heart in the 18th minute and Cee Jay Lampart doubled the lead with a 22nd-minute strike.
The Stout City side carried the 2-0 advantage into the break before Wolues halved the deficit early in the second half when Alexander Edwards converted a penalty in the 57th minute. Lampart restored a two-goal cushion a minute later to make it 3-1, but Ciaran Johnson’s 85th-minute goal set up a nervy finish for Lion Heart, who saw Wolues finish the game with 10 men after Kieran Brown was sent off for abusive language.
Wolues coach Levi James described his side’s mistakes as costly: "We pretty much was Santa Claus. We gave them three gifts they accepted it and made our life more difficult." Lion Heart coach Lenroy "Left" Henry said his team started slowly and relaxed after taking the early lead, conceding too many possessions and a defensive lapse that led to the penalty.
Islanders, now 5-0-0, beat Positive 3-0 after the under-strength visitors—who started with eight players before adding another—held out for a 0-0 half. Justin Smith broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, Rogel Noel doubled the lead in the 59th and Webster Pryce capped the scoring in the 61st.
The weekend’s biggest result saw Panthers rout Old Madrid 10-0. Nigel Sanderson, the 2024-25 league golden boot winner, marked his first start of the season with four goals (22', 34', 84', 86'). Romario Williams added a brace (7', 36') and now leads the scoring charts with 13 goals this campaign.
Other Panthers scorers were Tyrone Buddah (10'), Loic Simon (37') and Johann Lezama (89'). Old Madrid’s lone goal came from Phillip Wilson in the 24th minute. Defending champions VG United beat Rebels 5-2 as Kijuan Nimblett claimed a hat trick (7', 27', 49'). Joel Mars (17') and Decon Prince (72') also scored for VG United, while Angel Welsh (5') and Curtly Peters (34') replied for the Rebels.
On Virgin Gorda, Sugar Boys extended Avengers’ winless run with a 6-0 victory. Rolland Roberts scored early in the 2nd minute and added a second in the 48th; Mohammad Kachour netted a brace (53', 76') and Derrol Redhead finished the rout with goals in the 89th and two minutes into stoppage time.
The results leave fans with a clearer picture of the early-season pecking order in the BVIFA league as teams prepare for the busy weeks ahead.
