Lions Club 46th Tree Lighting Tomorrow
The Lions Club of Tortola will hold its 46th Christmas Tree Lighting and Concert tomorrow, November 28, at 6:30 PM with musical and dance performances and community festivities. The club is also launching its annual food and toy drives, seeking both in-kind and financial donations—particularly from the corporate sector—to support vulnerable families and children with special needs.
The Lions Club of Tortola will stage its 46th annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Concert tomorrow, Friday, November 28, 2025, starting at 6:30 PM. The evening will feature a programme of musical performances and dance presentations and is open to the entire Virgin Islands community, Lion Nadia A.
James said in an interview with JTV Channel 55 on Thursday, November 27. "You get a chance to sing, dance, be part of the festivities," James said, inviting residents across the territory to come out and support the event. The concert is a long-standing community tradition aimed at bringing people together for the start of the holiday season on Tortola.
Alongside the entertainment, the Lions Club is running its annual charitable initiatives with some changes this year. The club’s food drive will accept traditional non-perishable donations but is also asking the corporate community to contribute financially. Funds raised will be used to purchase items for food baskets destined for the most vulnerable households in the territory.
James said the club wants to be sensitive to dietary needs when preparing food baskets, and cash donations will allow organizers to buy items that meet requirements such as low sugar, low salt or gluten-free options. Collection points for non-perishable items have been confirmed; donors can request a customized list of needed items from any Lions representative at those locations.
The club will collect, pack and distribute the baskets to qualifying families. The annual toy drive has been revised to focus on children with special needs. This year’s recipients include the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre and the Therapeutic Kindergarten at the Enis Admas Primary School.
The club is working with teachers at both institutions to ensure gifts are appropriate and inclusive. Lion James again called on businesses and philanthropists to partner with the club to make the food and toy drives successful. Residents on the sister islands of Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda who wish to participate or make donations are asked to contact the Lions Club via email at tortolalions@gmail.com, through the club’s Facebook page or by reaching out to any member.
