Long Bay Road Reopens In Virgin Gorda
Long Bay Road in Virgin Gorda has officially reopened following extensive repairs from 2025 flood damage. The restored corridor provides a vital secondary route to North Sound, easing traffic congestion and supporting the island's tourism sector. Ninth District Representative Vincent Wheatley commended local contractors and thanked residents for their patience during the construction.
Motorists, tour operators, and residents on Virgin Gorda now have full access to a vital transit artery following the official reopening of Long Bay Road. The corridor was officially opened on Tuesday, August 25, following a comprehensive on-site inspection by Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M.
Rymer alongside Ninth District Representative Honourable Vincent O. The major infrastructure project was undertaken to restore daily connectivity and resolve significant damage caused by flooding in 2025. With repairs now complete, the bypass restores an essential secondary route into North Sound, easing congestion on primary roads and offering a dependable alternative for daily commuters.
Honourable Wheatley highlighted the value of the corridor to local transportation, noting that the community has waited patiently for the reconstruction to finish. He explained that having two fully functional routes into North Sound strengthens overall road safety and ensures that traffic can continue to flow smoothly even if primary thoroughfares face disruptions.
Beyond accommodating local traffic, the reopening is expected to deliver a significant boost to the Virgin Gorda tourism economy. The scenic roadway is a favourite for commercial tour operators and taxi drivers taking guests on island excursions. The corridor allows drivers to take visitors through Nail Bay along the western coast, up toward Gorda Peak and Hog Heaven, before arriving in North Sound.
Honourable Wheatley expressed his gratitude to contractor Franklyn E. Construction Company for their hard work and dedication throughout the various construction phases. He also extended warm thanks to the Virgin Gorda community for their endurance and understanding while heavy machinery occupied the roadway during the extended reconstruction period.
