Speaking on local radio, she dismissed recent speculation regarding her political future and reaffirmed her full support for the current government administration. Smith emphasized her dedication to public service and stated she is in good health to continue serving the Virgin Islands.

Smith, OBE, has put to rest lingering speculation about her political future, confirming that she intends to contest the upcoming general elections. Speaking on the Talking Points programme on ZBVI 780 AM, Hon. Smith addressed recurring inquiries regarding whether she planned to seek another term in office.

The legislator noted that she had received the question frequently in recent weeks, expressing surprise at the speculation given her continued work across the territory. "You know, I have been asked that question quite a few times recently. And of course, yes, I will be contesting the upcoming elections with God’s help," Hon.

She further noted that she remains in good health and expects to continue working on behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands, reflecting on her service over the past three and a half years. In addition to confirming her candidacy, Hon. Smith clarified her political alignment, stating that she remains firmly with the current governing administration.

She dismissed suggestions of any impending departure or political realignment, noting that any formal statements concerning party positions would come directly from the party leadership. "Well, I’m with the government at the moment, and I don’t expect that that would change," she affirmed.

She spoke positively of the administration's performance, adding: "I work with them. I enjoy working with them, and I think they’re doing an excellent job, and there’s no reason to go anywhere else." Hon. Smith first entered the House of Assembly following the 2023 general election and has held her current junior ministerial portfolio since 2025.

Her public declaration brings clarity to her political standing as political observers and constituents look ahead to the next electoral cycle.
