A 29-year-old man has been taken into custody and formally charged after law enforcement officers discovered a loaded firearm magazine inside his vehicle in the Purcell Estate community on Tortola. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours when officers responded to a distress call reporting an attempted residential burglary.

A female resident contacted the police to report that an intruder was attempting to gain access to her home through both the front and back doors. Police units promptly arrived at the scene in Purcell Estate and observed a vehicle parked in the driveway with its engine still running.

Officers immediately instructed the male occupant to step out of the car and keep his hands in plain sight to ensure the safety of everyone in the vicinity. During an inspection of the vehicle, officers spotted a gun magazine on the front passenger seat. An examination revealed that the magazine contained live rounds of ammunition.

When questioned by the responding officers, the suspect reportedly denied any knowledge of the item, claiming that the vehicle was a rental. The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Road Town Police Station, where he was later formally charged with offenses related to the unlawful possession of ammunition.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the 29-year-old is directly linked to the attempted burglary that initially prompted the police dispatch. The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding both the break-in attempt and the recovered ammunition, urging residents to report any suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods.
