๐Ÿ”ฆ Meet Clare Jenkins, the UK-funded adviser helping to strengthen policing in the Virgin Islands. ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ฌ ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง After a 33-year career with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, including as Acting Assistant Chief Constable, Clare swapped the south coast of England for the shores of the Virgin Islands to support the Royal Virgin Islands Police.

Working alongside the Acting Commissioner and senior leadership team, Clare has been helping to drive improvements across the organisation, from developing a new Strategic Assessment and future operating model to advancing digital forensics, safeguarding and analytical capability.

One project particularly close to her heart is the introduction of a new radio system for officers. "An effective communications system is vital for officer safety, particularly in the Sister Islands, and will help officers respond more quickly when people need them." Clare is also the British Overseas Territories lead on Violence Against Women and Girls and is working with local safeguarding professionals to strengthen support for vulnerable people across the Territory.

Despite her senior policing background, Clare says some of the things she's most proud of are the practical improvements that help officers do their jobs every day, including ensuring officers in Anegada have the facilities and equipment they need while serving their community. Asked what keeps her motivated, her answer is simple: "I genuinely care about the people who work in the RVIPF and want to help them succeed to the best of my ability." Outside of work, Clare can often be found exploring the Territory's hiking trails, swimming or snorkelling. ๐Ÿ
