Men’s Career Session Boosts BVI Workforce
On 10 October 2025 the Department of Labour and Workforce Development held its second annual Men’s Career Success Session in Tortola, bringing 13 participants together for employment readiness and professional development. The two-hour event produced immediate outcomes — including a scheduled job interview and two invitations to submit résumés — and organisers say they will expand the programme across the territory.
Tortola, 10 October 2025 — The Department of Labour and Workforce Development hosted the second annual Men’s Career Success Session on 10 October, bringing 13 men together for a focused two-hour discussion on employment readiness, career advancement and personal development. The session was led by a panel of presenters: Dr.
Michael Turnbull, Dave Smith, Guy Hill and Julian Willock. Senior Department staff in attendance included Acting Labour Commissioner Mervin Hasting, Labour Relations Officer Devern Davis and Assistant Labour Officer Leonardo Callwood, underlining the government’s continued support for the initiative.
Launched in 2024, the Men’s Career Success Session aims to create a safe, practical forum where male jobseekers can discuss workplace challenges, learn job-search strategies and connect directly with potential employers. Clair Flemming; organisers say the 2025 event built on lessons from that inaugural meeting.
Participants described the latest session as “very informative and beneficial.” Mr. Richards, who attended for a second time, praised the Department for maintaining the programme and noted the high quality of discussions. Other attendees urged the Department to expand into additional communities so more men across the Virgin Islands can take part.
One participant suggested shortening the session slightly, but feedback overall was positive. The session also produced concrete, short-term employment results. One attendee left with a scheduled job interview, and two others were invited to prepare and submit résumés to a private business in Road Town.
These outcomes illustrate the event’s practical, results-driven focus and its role in linking jobseekers to local employers. Labour Department officials said they remain committed to supporting men in their pursuit of professional success and to strengthening the BVI workforce. Plans are underway to continue the sessions and broaden outreach to other parts of the territory so more residents can benefit.
