MHV Group Awards $100,000 in Scholarships
Twenty-two Virgin Islands students have been awarded a combined total of $100,000 through the newly established Judith E. Vanterpool Scholarship Fund by the MHV BVI Group. The financial assistance will be distributed over a two-year period to support the recipients throughout their academic journeys. The initiative honours the lifelong legacy of local educator Judith Vanterpool while investing in the future development of the Territory.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola — Twenty-two Virgin Islands students will receive a collective $100,000 in financial aid following the launch of the Judith E. Vanterpool Scholarship Fund by the MHV BVI Group. The educational initiative was initially introduced by MHV BVI Group Chairman Mark Vanterpool with a $50,000 pledge.
To broaden the programme's reach and provide greater assistance to aspiring scholars across the Territory, the funding commitment was subsequently doubled to $100,000. Successful applicants are scheduled to receive their official award letters shortly, with the financial support disbursed across a two-year period.
Named in honour of MHV BVI Group co-founder Judith E. Vanterpool, the scholarship pays tribute to her more than five decades of service and leadership in education throughout the Virgin Islands. Both Mark and Judith Vanterpool share professional backgrounds as educators, shaping the company’s ongoing corporate focus on youth development, mentorship, and academic empowerment.
Speaking on the significance of the programme, Judith Vanterpool emphasised that the initiative is designed to offer more than just monetary relief. She highlighted that the investment serves as a clear message to students that the community believes in their potential, expressing strong hopes that recipients will return home after their studies to contribute directly to the socio-economic development of the Virgin Islands.
For more than two decades, the MHV BVI Group has maintained a history of supporting local scholars, with past beneficiaries returning to the Territory to take on vital roles across diverse sectors. In addition to academic scholarships, the company actively mentors local youth through annual summer employment and skills-training programmes.
