The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority confirmed that industrial remediation and air-conditioning adjustments will occur alongside scheduled roof repairs before a follow-up assessment is conducted.
The Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic on Virgin Gorda will remain closed until further notice after an independent environmental assessment confirmed the presence of mold within the healthcare facility, the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has announced. Following the receipt of comprehensive laboratory findings, health officials determined that specialized remediation work is required before the building can be cleared for safe occupancy.
The BVIHSA stated that the remediation process will be executed systematically to ensure that the facility is completely safe and suitable for healthcare operations before services resume. The upcoming phase of remediation will include a complete rebalancing of the clinic's air-conditioning system, along with industrial remediation cleaning of the ventilation ductwork and all interior areas of the facility.
Once these works are finished, a second independent environmental assessment will be carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the cleanup and certify whether the building is fit for staff and patient use. Despite the environmental challenges inside the facility, exterior infrastructure upgrades will proceed on schedule.
