Nagico Donates $10,000 To Yep
NAGICO Insurances has donated $10,000 to the Youth Empowerment Project following its inaugural charity run and walk at Paraquita Bay. More than 250 participants turned out in support of free after-school and mentorship programmes for local youth. The funds will help bolster YEP's community initiatives across the Territory.
NAGICO Insurances has reinforced its support for youth development across the Virgin Islands by donating $10,000 to the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP). The presentation followed the successful staging of NAGICO's inaugural 2-Mile Run/Walk With A Purpose, held at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) campus in Paraquita Bay.
The charity race attracted more than 250 participants, bringing together local families, corporate partners, fitness enthusiasts, and youth advocates. Highlighting the event's broad community appeal, organizers noted that participants ranged in age from four years old to over 80. Six participants received trophies for outstanding athletic performances, including awards for the fastest male and female runners overall and in the under-12 and under-17 divisions.
NAGICO Manager Shaquilla Smith presented the donation to YEP Deputy Director Bianca Dougan at the conclusion of the event. Shan Mohamed, Managing Director of NAGICO, emphasized that investing in young people is vital for the future of the Virgin Islands, noting that access to guidance and positive influences helps youth realize their full potential.
Dougan expressed deep appreciation for the contribution and the community turnout, explaining that non-profit funding directly supports YEP's mission. The organization, which is celebrating its 21st year of service in the Territory, provides free after-school educational support, mentorship programmes, and personal development opportunities.
At-Large Representative and YEP Executive Director Honourable Stacey Mather highlighted the importance of private-sector collaboration in expanding community reach. Mather noted that when corporate entities actively support youth initiatives, it elevates the profile of non-profit work across the Virgin Islands and inspires further community investment.
Organizers acknowledged key contributors who made the event possible, including Stephanie Ross-Penn and the HLSCC Athletic Association for race timing and logistics, Road Race Director Kay Reddy, and numerous corporate sponsors and volunteers. Following the successful turnout, both NAGICO and YEP have expressed intentions to continue building on this partnership for future community initiatives.
