Natasha Chalwell Honoured with Regional Tourism Award
British Virgin Islands Tourist Board Deputy Director Natasha J. Chalwell has been named a recipient of the 2026 Caribbean Media Exchange Leadership Awards. The regional accolade recognises her more than two decades of service in tourism marketing, sustainability, and destination innovation. The awards ceremony and fundraiser will take place in Florida in December 2026.
British Virgin Islands tourism executive Natasha J. Chalwell has been named among the Caribbean leadership laureates to be celebrated at the 2026 Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEx) Leadership Awards and Fundraiser. The prestigious honour highlights her decades-long commitment to advancing the Territory's tourism sector and bolstering its presence across the global travel landscape.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 6, 2026, at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel in the Miami area. Chalwell, who has served as Deputy Director of Tourism with the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission since January 2025, brings more than twenty years of industry experience in tourism marketing, product development, cruise policy, and stakeholder engagement.
Throughout her career, Chalwell has been at the forefront of modernising the BVI's destination marketing strategies. Among her notable initiatives is the integration of MindTrip AI into the BVI's official destination website, which provides prospective visitors with custom trip-planning assistance and recommendations.
While championing the strategic use of emerging technology, Chalwell has consistently emphasised that digital tools must complement, rather than replace, the authentic personal connections and hospitality central to the Virgin Islands experience. Her career accomplishments also reflect a deep dedication to resilience and education within the local community.
Chalwell previously spearheaded the Territory's first Sustainable Tourism Environmental Program, the Tourism Comprehensive Disaster Plan, and the Tourism Education Program, establishing foundational frameworks that continue to benefit the BVI's hospitality sector. CMEx noted that Chalwell will be honoured alongside a select group of regional leaders whose achievements have significantly advanced Caribbean tourism and media.
The 2026 awards are supported by several major regional tourism entities, including platinum sponsor the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, the BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission, and Carnival Corporation. Proceeds from the event will directly support educational programmes, youth development initiatives, and professional training designed to cultivate the next generation of Caribbean tourism and media professionals.
