Nature Girls Edge USVI 1-0
The BVI U-17 Nature Girls defeated the U.S. Virgin Islands Lady Dashing Eagles 1-0 in an international friendly at the A. O. Shirley Grounds. T’Nyah Richardson scored in the 52nd minute and goalkeeper Giada Palladino kept a clean sheet as BVI showed encouraging signs in front of a home crowd.
The BVI Under-17 Nature Girls held off the U.S. Virgin Islands Lady Dashing Eagles 1-0 in an international friendly at the A. Shirley Grounds on Saturday, a tightly contested match that saw the decisive goal early in the second half. After a scoreless first 51 minutes, T’Nyah Richardson converted off a Millie Cottreau throw-in in the 52nd minute to give the home side the lead.
BVI goalkeeper Giada Palladino preserved the slim advantage, making key saves and finishing with a clean sheet. The opening half featured several near chances for the Nature Girls. Within the first 13 minutes Eva Carey tested USVI keeper Kyliz Osorio with a direct free kick that Osorio blocked.
Later, Kyla Flax sent a promising attempt wide as Osorio came off her line, and Richardson had an earlier effort cleared by a USVI defender. Both teams went into the interval level at 0-0. Assistant coach LaToya Sue praised her players for executing recent training work, highlighting improved passing, ball control and movement. "To see execution of everything we have been working on in the past weeks was great to see," she said, noting how the team created balance in defence and took more effective shots on goal.
At halftime Sue encouraged patience and persistence; she said the goal that followed boosted the players' confidence and cohesion. Sue also identified areas for continued improvement, particularly players' decision-making in what she described as the "half side" positions — urging younger players to take open shots rather than hesitate.
For the Lady Dashing Eagles, coach Katie Quinnland, leading the team for the first time, said her squad showed positive signs but lacked the final touch. "We wanted to create problems for their backline and goalkeeper," she said, noting progress with crosses and getting into attacking positions as the game went on.
Quinnland added that with only one training session before the match, there is ample time to work on defensive organisation and finishing. The friendly offered both squads valuable match experience and a chance to test tactical ideas in front of family and local supporters at the A.
