NDP Faces Backlash Over Halloween Event
The National Democratic Party is facing criticism from local religious figures and residents after sanctioning a Halloween Treat Fest in Road Town. Critics argue that promoting Halloween conflicts with the Christian values of the territory and have urged party leadership to reconsider the event.
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has come under fire from members of the local Christian community following promotional efforts for an upcoming Halloween gathering scheduled to take place in Road Town. According to promotional flyers circulated on social media, the party has sanctioned a Halloween Treat Fest slated for October 31 at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The planned gathering has quickly drawn strong objections from religious leaders and residents who maintain that political and civic organizations should not endorse festivities associated with Halloween. Tasha Toussaint, sharing her perspective via her online platform The Alabaster Box, expressed deep concern regarding the event.
Toussaint described Halloween as an observance tied to the demonic realm that should not be normalized in what is widely regarded as a Christian society. Warning of negative spiritual patterns, she urged the Virgin Islands public to protect local youth and remain anchored in the territory's traditional spiritual foundations.
Community advocate Theresa Felix voiced comparable sentiments on social media, questioning why an established political organization would choose to promote Halloween in the Virgin Islands. Felix highlighted the need for spiritual vigilance and formally called on NDP Chairman and Representative for the Eighth District, Honourable Marlon A.
Penn, to urge organizers to reconsider their approach. She recommended retooling the gathering into a constructive, community-oriented event that aligns with the territory's cultural and religious heritage. Discussions surrounding Halloween celebrations frequently resurface across the British Virgin Islands, often highlighting the tension between modern seasonal entertainment for children and longstanding religious convictions deeply woven into the community.
As public reaction continues to unfold, residents are watching closely to see whether the NDP will address the concerns or adjust the scope of the planned festivities.
