The National Democratic Party has internally selected its full slate of candidates for the upcoming general election. Party leader Marlon Penn reaffirmed the organisation's strength on local radio while addressing speculation surrounding key party members.
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has finalised its full slate of candidates ahead of the next general election, according to party leader Marlon Penn, though formal public announcements will be rolled out gradually. Speaking during a recent appearance on the Talking Points radio programme, Penn dismissed circulating concerns regarding the party's internal readiness and operational structure.
He emphasised that the executive machinery is fully active and preparing diligently for the upcoming polls, assuring supporters that the organisation remains solid. To date, the NDP has formally announced two candidates: Aaron Parillon for the Third District and Perline Scatliffe-Leonard for the Seventh District.
While no other names have been officially introduced to the public, Penn confirmed that decisions regarding the remaining constituency and at-large candidates have already been settled internally. During the broadcast, host Damion Grange questioned Penn about the standing of prominent senior members Melvin "Mitch" Turnbull and Myron Walwyn, particularly following recent discussions surrounding internal leadership processes.
When asked if both men were still on board, Penn responded in the affirmative, confirming they remain part of the organisation. However, Penn declined to state whether Turnbull and Walwyn would contest their traditional districts under the NDP banner. Pressed on the matter, the party leader maintained a cautious stance, stating that he would not bypass established party procedures to make premature announcements.
The guarded responses arrive amid heightened political speculation across the Territory concerning NDP cohesion. Rumours have suggested discontent among some members, with further unconfirmed talk hinting that senior figures might align with the Progressive Liberal Movement (PLM), a political party recently launched by former legislator Mark Vanterpool.
Neither Turnbull nor Walwyn has publicly indicated any intention to depart the NDP. As election preparations continue to build momentum across the Virgin Islands, the NDP maintains that its full slate of candidates will be presented to the electorate in due course through scheduled rollout events.
