New Alliance Proposed For Public Officers
Plans are underway to establish an Employees United Alliance to provide Virgin Islands workers with a confidential avenue to voice workplace concerns. The initiative follows high-level discussions aimed at improving workplace culture and supervisory accountability across the public sector. Additional upcoming measures include an expanded 360-degree appraisal system and a comprehensive employee engagement survey.
A new platform designed to advocate for worker rights and improve workplace culture across the Virgin Islands is in development following constructive discussions between Stephon D. The proposed initiative, known as the Employees United Alliance, aims to serve as a secure and confidential space where public officers and workers throughout the territory can raise issues regarding workplace dynamics without fear of identification or reprisal.
According to Mactavious, the idea emerged from recent talks focused on putting actionable solutions in place for the public workforce. Under the arrangement, Mactavious plans to champion the alliance to ensure public sector employees have a trusted avenue to air their grievances while working alongside official leadership to find constructive resolutions.
He noted that maintaining independence in his representative role remains critical to fostering trust between workers and management. Several concrete measures are scheduled to roll out across the public service to address ongoing staff concerns. Chief among them is the formal extension of the 360-degree supervisory feedback mechanism to all government departments in time for the upcoming End of Year Performance Appraisals.
This change will ensure performance feedback flows in both directions, allowing subordinates to provide structured, confidential assessments of their supervisors. Additionally, officials are developing a comprehensive Employee Engagement Survey scheduled to launch in October 2026.
The survey is designed to serve as a diagnostic assessment of workplace culture across various ministries and departments, gauging staff experiences, supervisory relationships, and overall workplace health. In the interim, the government will increase awareness around existing grievance procedures, ensuring every public officer understands how to formally register complaints when issues arise within their work environments.
Mactavious urged public sector employees to embrace the forthcoming changes and feel empowered to speak up about workplace challenges, stating that these structural reforms represent the start of a broader push to prioritize worker well-being across the Virgin Islands.
