New Crown Land Application Forms Launched
The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change has rolled out updated Crown land application forms designed to streamline requests for residential and commercial land use across the Territory. Available both digitally and in print, the fillable forms support the newly enacted Crown Lands Management Act and aim to reduce processing delays by providing clearer submission guidelines.
The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change has officially introduced updated application forms aimed at simplifying the process for individuals and businesses seeking access to Crown land across the Virgin Islands. The initiative is designed to provide clearer guidelines for applicants, significantly reducing the volume of incomplete submissions and cutting down on administrative processing delays.
The revised forms support the ongoing implementation of the Crown Lands Management Act, which came into effect on January 31, 2025. Under the regulatory framework, Crown land may be sold to Virgin Islanders for residential home construction or leased to businesses for commercial use and development.
The new documentation covers a comprehensive spectrum of land-use applications, including residential grants, commercial property leases, coastal reclamations, jetties, and breakwaters. Chief Lands Officer Heather Skelton explained that the updated documents reflect extensive administrative restructuring within the department.
She noted that the revised forms clearly set out all required information and mandatory supporting documents that applicants must submit. Designed to streamline operations and enhance transparency, the clearer requirements are expected to minimise turnaround times and improve overall efficiency across the ministry.
To make the application process as accessible as possible, the ministry has made the forms available electronically in a fillable format, allowing applicants to complete them directly on their computers. For individuals who prefer physical submissions or lack digital access, printed copies are also available directly from the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change.
The forms and additional guidance can be accessed online through the official government portal at gov.vg. Smith-Berkeley noted that while the streamlined process improves public access to land administration services, submitting an application is merely the first step and does not guarantee automatic approval.
He stressed that applications will still undergo rigorous review to ensure compliance with relevant policies and statutory requirements. Deputy Premier and Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Honourable Julian Fraser, welcomed the rollout as a key milestone in modernising government operations and enhancing administrative efficiency.
Officials continue to urge all prospective applicants to thoroughly review the stated requirements and verify that all necessary supporting documentation is attached prior to submission to avoid delays.
