New Forms Streamline Crown Land Applications
The Government of the Virgin Islands has introduced updated application forms designed to simplify and accelerate the Crown land acquisition process. Available online and in print, the forms cover residential grants, commercial leases, reclamations, jetties, and breakwaters under the new Crown Lands Management Act. Officials note that clearly outlining submission requirements will help reduce processing delays and enhance service delivery across the Territory.
The Government of the Virgin Islands has released updated application forms aimed at streamlining the acquisition and leasing of Crown land across the Territory. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change to improve administrative efficiency and modernize public service delivery.
The updated documentation caters to several specific categories of land use, including applications for residential grants, commercial land leases, reclamations, jetties, and breakwaters. Under territorial governance, Crown land can be sold to individuals seeking residential property or leased to enterprises for commercial operations, making an organized and transparent system critical for fair allocation.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Honourable Julian Fraser, RA, welcomed the launch, noting that the forms reflect the ministry's dedication to improving public services. Ronald Berkeley reiterated that the forms are designed to facilitate smoother access, though he cautioned that submitting an application does not automatically guarantee government approval.
Chief Lands Officer Heather Skelton expressed satisfaction with the rollout, highlighting that the documents represent extensive work carried out behind the scenes to address past administrative bottlenecks. According to Skelton, the updated forms clearly specify all compulsory documentation and data requirements, which will prevent incomplete submissions and significantly cut down on review times.
To ensure wide accessibility for residents across all islands, the documents have been formatted as fillable electronic files, allowing applicants to complete them directly on personal computers. Printed copies are also being made available directly at the ministry's offices for individuals who prefer hard copies.
The new procedures directly support the execution of the Crown Lands Management Act, which took effect on 31 January 2025. Members of the public interested in applying are encouraged to visit the official government website at gov.vg to review requirements and download the necessary paperwork before submitting their requests.
