The National Health Insurance (NHI) is marking 10 years of service this January with a series of public events designed to engage residents, medical professionals and community partners across the Virgin Islands. The anniversary week runs from January 6–10, 2026, and celebrates a decade of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and financial protection, the NHI said in a release (reported by VINO).
The official opening will take place on Tuesday, January 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Dr. The ceremony will feature remarks from key stakeholders and a tribute to the NHI’s evolution over the past ten years, organisers said (NHI release; reported by VINO). On Wednesday, January 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex will host a Provider Expo & Health Fair that brings together local and overseas healthcare providers.
According to the NHI release reported by VINO, attendees can access free health screenings and consultations, including blood pressure checks, skin analyses, blood sugar and cholesterol tests, and mental health support alongside other preventive-care resources. The Social Security Board will also be on hand to check contributions as part of the initiative, VINO reported.
The Expo underlines NHI’s focus on proactive health management and community outreach. A Medical Symposium for healthcare professionals will be held on Friday, January 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the hospital lobby. Presentations and panel discussions will cover current medical trends and policy development, with topics including urology, neurology, neurosurgery and healthcare management.
Organisers say the symposium will emphasise collaborative strategies to improve patient outcomes across the Territory (NHI release; BVI News). The anniversary week concludes with a Community Walk/Run on Saturday, January 10. Participants are asked to meet at the Joshua J. Smith Building (home to the Social Security Board and NHI offices) at 5:30 a.m.; the route will proceed to CSY Dock and return.
