ROAD TOWN, Tortola — Nyammin’ has been named the Official Rum Cake Partner for the 14th annual Christmas in July celebration, bringing a beloved BVI culinary tradition to one of the Territory’s largest summer events. The festival, scheduled for Saturday, July 25 at Pond Bay, Virgin Gorda, routinely draws more than 500 vessels and upwards of 6,000 visitors, organisers say.

Christmas in July is one of the Caribbean’s premier nautical gatherings and a major draw for both residents and visiting boaters. Nyammin’s signature rum cakes are handcrafted in the British Virgin Islands using locally produced rum from Callwood Rum Distillery on Tortola, the Territory’s only operating rum distillery and one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the Caribbean.

The cakes are inspired by traditional BVI black cake: dried fruits soaked in Callwood rum are folded into a rich, dark batter to create the distinctive flavour and texture many families reserve for Christmas. Co-founder Chanelle Harrigan said the partnership offers a chance to share a piece of home. "In our household, and for many of our friends and family, Christmas in the BVI isn’t complete without black cake or rum cake.

We’re proud to bring that tradition to everyone attending Christmas in July this year," she said. At Pond Bay, festival-goers can visit Nyammin’s booth to sample cakes, buy products and enter giveaways celebrating local cuisine. The company hopes the presence will introduce more residents and visitors to a recognisable BVI dessert while spotlighting locally sourced ingredients and small business entrepreneurship.

Nyammin’ is also using the event to support local causes. The company announced it will donate 10 percent of all sales made during Christmas in July to two charities: Beyond the Reef, which focuses on restoring and protecting Caribbean marine ecosystems and promoting environmental education, and Kickin’ It, a movement that celebrates Virgin Islands culture and supports local creatives.

Since launching its rum cakes in 2024, Nyammin’ has expanded across the Territory. Products are sold at outlets including Callwood Rum Distillery, Initial Artistry at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, Swirlzzz, KennyTees at the Tortola Pier Park, Bobby’s Marketplace in Road Town, The Bunker BVI, Trellis Bay Market and Peter Island Resort.

Founded in 2019 by Chanelle Harrigan, Alyssa Harrigan-Jones and Kevin Jones, Nyammin’ aims to share BVI flavours and traditions with a wider audience. Its selection as official rum cake partner positions the brand to become a fixture of this much‑loved summer celebration.
