OBE Before Heroes Month Ends and I
🌤A SALUTE IN MEMORY OF THE HON. ELTON GEORGES, OBE Before Heroes Month ends, I have to share my recollections of the late Hon. Elton Geoges who served as Deputy Governor of the BVI from 1983 to 2003.
ELTON GEORGES, OBE Before Heroes Month ends, I have to share my recollections of the late Hon. Elton Geoges who served as Deputy Governor of the BVI from 1983 to 2003. Georges was the de facto head of the Public Service. I dealt with him in that capacity in 2001 when I entered the public service sector.
Georges later served as the Government Umbudsman after his tenure as Deputy Governor. His other key areas of service include conribution to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) before it was renamed Department of Disaster Management (DDM) in 2003. Geoges is remembered also as a patron of the BVI Diabetes Association where he served on the Board for many years, including the years I served as Public Relations Officer.
He was an active member of the Rotary Club, and also a lay preacher of the Methodist Church. Georges is remembered as a people's person, a no-nonsense gentleman, and definitely a BVI Hero, role model of citizenship with distinction. May his memory serve as influence to our young men today.
Geoges came from humble beginnings, raised by a single mother. He excelled nevertheless because he had good people in his life like his Godmother, the late Evelyn Christopher with whom he maintained a positive relationship until his passing in 2018 after a brief illness. We must always remember the good people of the BVI.
I hope this inspires you to share memories of the heroes in your life. 💕 #sphlovenotes
