Paraquita Bay Road Reopens to Traffic After
The Paraquita Bay Road, a significant infrastructure project stretching 3,813 linear feet from Paraquita Bay to Hodge's Creek, has officially reopened following the completion of its final paving phase. The reopening marks the end of a project that aimed to improve traffic flow and safety, with the road now open for vehicular traffic.
Residents and commuters in the British Virgin Islands are celebrating the reopening of the Paraquita Bay Road this Sunday, following the completion of a crucial infrastructure project aimed at enhancing roadway safety and efficiency. The project, which stretched 3,813 linear feet from Paraquita Bay to Hodge's Creek, was completed by Northam Construction with a budget exceeding $2.3 million, according to information provided by Lordon Hamlet, the firm's Managing Director.
Greenaway, also known as 'The Sportsman', a communication specialist for the Ministry of Communication and Works, shared via a short video on Facebook that vehicular access has been fully restored. Greenaway highlighted that the work, extending between Bouncer’s Bar and the college on the south coast road, is now open for vehicular traffic.
This announcement comes as a relief to residents and businesses in the area who have expressed concerns over the duration and repeated closures required to complete the road project. The Government of the Virgin Islands awarded Northam Construction the contract for the project, which involved not only the paving of the road but also significant civil engineering tasks including excavation, rebuilding the subbase, and resurfacing with asphalt.
This comprehensive approach ensures that the road can now be navigated more safely and comfortably, addressing long-standing issues of traffic congestion and route safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Despite facing challenges such as delays in the arrival of necessary drainage pipes, Northam Construction adapted their strategy, allowing the road to reopen as quickly as possible.
Lordon Hamlet had previously disclosed plans to first pave the road and then proceed with the installation of pipes and back drainage at a later stage, to minimize disruption to the local community. The successful completion of the Paraquita Bay Road project is a testament to the commitment of both the government and private sector partners to enhancing the territory's infrastructure.
