Passing Showers Expected Across Virgin Islands
A weak tropical wave is bringing increased cloudiness and passing showers to the Virgin Islands through Sunday. However, a light concentration of Saharan dust is expected to limit significant rainfall activity across the territory. Residents and motorists are advised to exercise caution on slick roadways during brief downpours.
The Department of Disaster Management has issued a weather outlook indicating that moisture associated with a weak tropical wave passing through the region will bring increased cloudiness and brief showers across the British Virgin Islands through Sunday evening. According to regional meteorological data shared by disaster officials, the overall intensity of rainfall is expected to be capped due to a light layer of Saharan dust present in the atmosphere.
While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, localized passing showers are likely to develop over the islands. Overnight conditions are forecast to remain partly cloudy, becoming increasingly overcast into the pre-dawn hours with a 40 percent chance of showers. Overnight temperatures will hover around 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit).
Winds are expected to blow steadily from the east at 10 to 15 miles per hour (16 to 24 kilometres per hour). Marine conditions across the territory remain relatively tranquil, with seas running at 2 to 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 metres). For Sunday, skies will remain partly cloudy with a reduced 30 percent chance of lingering showers throughout the day.
Disaster management authorities advise the public to stay informed and monitor local forecasts, noting that brief downpours can develop quickly. Motorists are urged to exercise heightened caution on the territory's roads, as sudden showers can create slippery driving conditions. Beachgoers and operators of small vessels should also continue practicing standard marine safety precautions while on the water.
