Passing Showers Expected Across Virgin Islands
Residents across the Virgin Islands can expect partly cloudy skies with a moderate chance of passing showers today and tonight. Pockets of moisture embedded within the easterly wind flow are driving the wet conditions, with wind gusts possibly reaching up to 30 mph during showers.
Residents and visitors across the British Virgin Islands should prepare for intermittent rainfall throughout the day, according to the latest weather outlook issued for the territory. Pockets of low-level moisture moving along the prevailing wind flow are expected to generate brief periods of passing showers across the islands.
Forecasters report that conditions today will feature partly cloudy skies alongside a 60 percent, or moderate, chance of morning showers. Heading into the evening and overnight hours, cloud cover is anticipated to increase slightly, maintaining partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a continuing 60 percent chance of scattered showers.
Winds across the territory will blow from the east at speeds ranging between 8 and 20 mph (13 to 31 km/h). However, motorists and outdoor enthusiasts should remain alert, as wind gusts could peak up to 30 mph (48 km/h) in and around localized shower activity. Marine conditions remain relatively moderate for local mariners and beachgoers.
Open water sea swells are forecast to range between 3 and 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters). While conditions are generally manageable, small craft operators and swimmers are advised to exercise standard caution, especially when sudden wind gusts impact coastal waters. Astronomical data indicates sunset this evening will occur at 6:21 p.m., while sunrise tomorrow morning is scheduled for 6:06 a.m.
The weather assessment was prepared by forecaster Trecy Spencer-Lake of the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services and disseminated locally by the Department of Disaster Management. The department reminds the public to monitor local forecasts regularly as weather patterns develop.
