Pier Park Tightens Security After Heist

Tortola Pier Park Ltd says private security was on duty, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force responded quickly, and enhanced safety measures are now in place while police investigate.
Tortola Pier Park Ltd (TPPL) has strengthened security at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park after a robbery at the House of Luxury jewellery store on Tuesday, the company said in a statement. TPPL said private security personnel were on duty when the incident occurred and that the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) responded swiftly, secured the scene and opened an active investigation.
The company confirmed it is cooperating fully with police but said it would not release further details at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation. The latest theft has renewed public concern about safety at the territory’s primary cruise and shopping hub. TPPL noted the Pier Park receives more than 500,000 visitors each year and pointed to a similar, high-profile daylight robbery at the same House of Luxury location in July 2023, when two masked men fired shots into the air while fleeing.
That incident heightened worries among business owners and residents about security in the busy facility. TPPL reiterated that the Pier Park operates under what it described as robust, layered security protocols. Those include restricted vehicle access and coordinated deployment of security personnel from TPPL, private firms and the BVI Ports Authority on cruise ship days.
While this most recent robbery occurred on a non-ship day, the company said its security and surveillance teams were fully operational across the facility. The statement also recalled that a previous coordinated response involving the RVIPF, private security, the BVI Ports Authority and TPPL led to the swift apprehension of suspects.
TPPL said it remains optimistic that continued interagency cooperation will produce results in the current investigation. Following Tuesday’s incident, TPPL announced it has implemented enhanced safety measures across the Pier Park. The company declined to disclose specifics for security reasons but said the new precautions align with best practices for high-traffic commercial and port environments.
House of Luxury is expected to reopen no later than Friday, December 5, 2025, TPPL added. TPPL and police have asked anyone with information to contact the RVIPF. The company said it will provide updates when appropriate. For residents and business owners, the incident is a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement as authorities continue their investigation.
