Pioneering Greatness Pauses Conference for Jamaica
BVI-based Pioneering Greatness has postponed its 2025 Success Conference, originally scheduled for November 1, to support recovery efforts in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa. Founder David D. Archer Jr. says the organisation will instead deploy volunteers with disaster-response partner Aerial Recovery and repurpose the event into a benefit for Jamaica.
Pioneering Greatness, a British Virgin Islands–based leadership and motivational movement, has announced the rescheduling of its 2025 Success Conference following the passage of Hurricane Melissa across Jamaica. The conference had been planned for November 1 and would have been the organisation’s first time hosting the event outside the Virgin Islands.
Archer Jr. — who also serves as Deputy Governor of the Virgin Islands — said the organisation’s immediate priority is to assist Jamaica’s recovery rather than hold a celebratory event while communities are affected by the storm. Hurricane Melissa, reported as a Category 5 storm, caused widespread flooding, infrastructure damage and prolonged power outages across several Jamaican parishes.
According to Jamaica’s Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), some areas remain without full access to clean water and electricity and road-clearance operations are ongoing. Authorities have reported hundreds displaced from low-lying areas but, thankfully, no major loss of life has been confirmed. "Due to the passage of Hurricane Melissa and our concern for the people of Jamaica, we will reschedule and repurpose our success and motivational conference to a stronger effort to support Jamaica during this period," Archer said.
He added that he plans to travel to Jamaica with Aerial Recovery, a disaster-response organisation, to help coordinate and participate in hands-on recovery efforts. "Our Pioneering Greatness team will serve to provide hands and hope during this period," Archer said, noting the group intends to convert the planned conference into "Pioneering Greatness 2025/2026: A Conference of Hope, Support, and Inspiration — a benefit for Jamaica and its people" once recovery allows.
For BVI residents, the move underscores close regional ties: many families in the territory have Jamaican connections, and collaborative recovery efforts are common across Caribbean islands after major storms. Residents who wish to support relief efforts or volunteer can contact Pioneering Greatness directly via their website (www.pioneeringgreatness.com), WhatsApp/Text +1 (284) 542-4348, or email pioneeringgreatness@gmail.com.
The organisation also posts updates on Instagram and Facebook at @pioneeringgreatness. Archer and his team expressed gratitude to Jamaica’s emergency responders and volunteers and urged collective action, compassion and rebuilding as priorities for the coming weeks. Pioneering Greatness, now in its seventh year, says it will announce new dates and the restructured benefit once plans are finalised.
