PLM Launches Free District 7 Lunch Programme
The People's Leadership Movement District 7 Committee has launched a free school lunch initiative for eligible primary students in East End and Long Look. Operating under the theme 'Healthy Students. Brighter Futures,' the programme aims to ease financial burdens for local families while boosting student focus and well-being.
In an effort to tackle childhood hunger and ease the rising cost of living for families, the People's Leadership Movement (PLM) District 7 Committee has launched a new School Lunch Programme serving the East End and Long Look communities. Operating under the theme "Healthy Students.
Brighter Futures," the initiative provides free lunch assistance to eligible students attending Francis Lettsome Primary School and Willard Wheatley Primary School. The programme was developed to ensure that children have consistent access to nutritious meals throughout the school day, removing hunger as an obstacle to academic success.
Kevon Lettsome, President of the PLM District 7 Committee, explained that the initiative arose after closely observing the financial pressures facing households across the district. Lettsome noted that hunger significantly hinders a child's ability to concentrate, participate in class, and engage fully in school activities. "I have seen this need in District 7 with my own eyes, and we could not look away.
When a child is hungry, it shows in their focus, their energy and their smile," Lettsome said. "Our children are the future of these Virgin Islands, and if we want them to reach that future, we must make sure they are fed today. This programme is our promise to the parents and children of District 7: You are not alone, and we will show up for you." PLM Leader Mark H.
Vanterpool commended Lettsome and the committee members for stepping forward with direct, practical action to support community families. "Kevon and the District 7 Committee did not wait for an election to start serving their community. They saw a need, and they acted," Vanterpool said. "A child who is fed is a child who can learn, and a child who can learn can build a brighter BVI for all." According to the PLM, the School Lunch Programme represents an essential part of its wider community outreach strategy and ongoing efforts to support families across the British Virgin Islands.
