BVI News understands that the single round was found by an onboard security officer who searched the passenger’s bag.
The BVI police were called to the scene to recover the ammunition and do further investigation. It’s reported that the passenger told the authorities that she is a US Border Protection officer who is legally permitted to carry a firearm in the US. However, she admitted that she was unaware the round was still in the bag when she travelled to the BVI.
The police allegedly warned the passenger that it’s illegal to have ammunition in the territory without the appropriate licence. After the caution from police, the woman was released and the ammunition was taken into custody. In the meantime, our sources say local authorities also contacted the US Border Protection authorities who confirmed that the passenger was indeed an employee of their agency.
