Police Urge Vigilance on Old Year's Night
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is reminding residents and visitors to take extra precautions during Old Year’s Night festivities, with increased patrols planned across the territory. Authorities encourage people to secure belongings, avoid driving under the influence, arrange safe transport and use the free Trellis Bay parking provided by the BVI Airports Authority.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is urging residents and visitors to remain vigilant as Old Year’s Night celebrations take place across the territory and continue into the New Year. In a public release, the force said it will increase patrols to support public safety and ensure a peaceful transition into 2026.
Old Year’s Night is traditionally marked by social gatherings, late-night activity and greater movement around popular hubs. The RVIPF reminded the public to be mindful of their surroundings, particularly in crowded areas, and to take simple, practical steps to protect themselves, their property and their finances.
Police advice includes securing personal belongings, avoiding carrying large amounts of cash, and keeping vehicles locked when unattended. Motorists and event-goers heading to Trellis Bay were specifically advised to make use of the designated parking area. The BVI Airports Authority has made its Trellis Bay parking lot available free of charge for those attending Old Year’s Night activities.
The RVIPF asked drivers to park in the designated area, secure their vehicles and follow directions from police officers and event marshals. To reduce the risk of road incidents, the RVIPF advised residents not to drink and drive and to arrange safe transportation in advance. Celebrants are encouraged to remain with friends or family, check in on vulnerable persons in their community, and celebrate responsibly.
Police also reminded the public to comply with instructions from officers on duty to ensure events proceed without disruption. The RVIPF said increased patrols will cover key areas across the BVI and that officers are prepared to respond quickly to incidents.
