Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley welcomed High Commissioner Mayank Joshi, the new Non-Resident Consul of India to the Virgin Islands, marking a significant step towards bolstering bilateral relations between the Virgin Islands and India. In a ceremony that underscores the Virgin Islands' commitment to fostering strong international partnerships, Premier Dr. Mayank Joshi, India's High Commissioner to Jamaica and newly appointed Non-Resident Consul for the Virgin Islands (British), on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025. The formal presentation, which took place during a courtesy call on Friday, 29th August 2025, signals a new chapter in the relationship between the Virgin Islands and India, aiming to explore mutual opportunities for growth and development.
Premier Wheatley expressed enthusiasm about the potential for strengthened bilateral relations, highlighting the significant contributions of the approximately 200 Indian nationals residing in the Virgin Islands. 'Their contributions to our socio-economic fabric are immensely valued,' Wheatley stated, emphasizing the importance of the Indian community within the territory.
