Price Findlay Named 14th Ecsc Chief
Her Ladyship the Honourable Madam Margaret Price-Findlay has been appointed the 14th Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, effective April 9, 2026. The appointment, made by His Majesty King Charles III by letters patent, underscores the ECSC’s commitment to judicial excellence and regional cooperation, with direct implications for the British Virgin Islands as a member jurisdiction.
Her Ladyship the Honourable Madam Margaret Price-Findlay has been appointed the 14th Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), the court announced. The appointment took effect on April 9, 2026, and was made by letters patent issued by His Majesty King Charles III.
The ECSC described Price-Findlay’s rise to the office as the culmination of a distinguished legal and judicial career across the Eastern Caribbean. The court said her service has been “defined by exemplary service, sound jurisprudence, and an unwavering commitment to justice across the Eastern Caribbean sub-region,” adding that the appointment “marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of judicial excellence, regional cooperation, and the reinforcement of the rule of law in the Eastern Caribbean.” For the British Virgin Islands, which is one of the ECSC’s member jurisdictions, the appointment has practical importance.
The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court provides both High Court and Court of Appeal services to six independent states and three British Overseas Territories — Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, along with Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands and Montserrat.
The Chief Justice is head of the judiciary and is responsible for the overall administration of the court system across those jurisdictions. That role affects the BVI directly: the administration of High Court business, allocation of judges, case management standards, and the functioning of the regional Court of Appeal all come under the Chief Justice’s remit.
The ECSC said it expects the court to “continue to exemplify the highest standards of judicial excellence and innovation” under Price-Findlay’s leadership, signalling continuity in case handling and regional legal cooperation. The ECSC is headquartered in Saint Lucia and plays a central role in upholding the rule of law throughout the sub-region.
