Public Officers Complete SHRM-CP Programme through Vipsli
Human resources professionals across the Public Service have successfully earned the globally recognised SHRM-CP credential after completing a capacity-building programme delivered by the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VIPSLI). The Government release, issued by the Office of the Deputy Governor, highlights the certification’s role in the ongoing transformation of the Public Service since 2024 and provides contact details for further enquiries.
Human resources professionals across the Public Service have successfully earned the Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential after completing a capacity-building initiative led by the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VIPSLI), the Government said in an official release.
The SHRM-CP is a globally recognised certification designed to strengthen HR knowledge and practice through rigorous training and assessment. To achieve certification, participants were evaluated on core HR competencies across people, organisation and workplace domains, as well as behavioural competencies such as leadership, ethical practice and business acumen.
The qualification is valid for three years, the release noted. Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE, welcomed the achievement and framed it as part of a broader transformation. "Since 2024, we have been working to transform the Department of Human Resources to align with the vision of a more agile, responsive, and engaging Public Service," she said in the Government statement, adding that the SHRM-CP results represent "a significant milestone in our commitment to capacity building and organisational development." She said certifications such as SHRM-CP provide technical skills and give officers access to an international network and knowledge base that will enhance HR management across government departments. "This certification journey represents an important step in ensuring that our Public Officers are benchmarked against global standards, strengthening both individual capability and institutional performance," Dr.

The newly certified public officers are Cara Christopher, Deidre Fahie, Eulet Evelyn, Jovelle Lewis, Linette Rabsatt, Sadiqua Chinnery and Ziina Hanley. Their successful completion places them among an emerging cadre of HR professionals in the Territory with internationally benchmarked credentials, the Government release stated.
Officials say strengthened HR capability within government can translate into more efficient recruitment and retention, better staff development and improved delivery of public services for BVI residents. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise public administration, align practices with international standards and attract competent personnel to serve the Territory.
