Quarry Issues Halt Little Dix Roadworks
Road paving operations between Jennings Hill and Little Dix Hill have been temporarily halted due to equipment issues at the supplying quarry. Acting Director of Public Works Kurt Hodge clarified that the project has not been abandoned and will resume once necessary machinery is restored.
Paving operations between Jennings Hill and Little Dix Hill have come to a temporary standstill following unexpected technical issues at the quarry supplying raw material for the project. Acting Director of the Public Works Department, Kurt Hodge, confirmed the disruption, reassuring residents and motorists that the critical infrastructure project has not been abandoned.
According to Hodge, the department is fully prepared to complete the resurfacing works as soon as the quarry receives the replacement machinery required to resume full operations. The project was launched to repair the degraded roadway and significantly improve hillside drainage in the area.
Key components of the work include constructing slipper drains and concrete kerb walls designed to channel stormwater runoff efficiently while preventing loose soil, rocks, and debris from washing down onto the driving surface. Hodge explained that the completed concrete infrastructure will play a crucial role in maintaining road safety and extending the lifespan of the newly paved surface.
He noted that the team had made steady progress, completing the kerb and slipper drains before asphalt laying was interrupted by the quarry's supply constraints. Public Works had initially commenced the asphalt application without difficulty, but operations had to be paused when the external quarry suffered equipment breakdowns.
Hodge stressed that the delay is beyond the department's direct control, as road crews must wait for the supplier to restore full mechanical capacity before the Public Works asphalt plant can produce more mix. The Ministry of Communications and Works had scheduled the Little Dix Hill paving to run from August 19 to August 21, following related infrastructure work completed at Fort Hill.
Although an exact restart date has not yet been finalized, Hodge appealed for patience from the traveling public, reiterating the government's commitment to delivering durable road improvements across the territory.
