The Race Is On: A Political Showdown Takes Shape in the Third District. For years, the Third District has been anything but a political horse race. As the 2026 election cycle gathers steam across the British Virgin Islands, the starting gates are beginning to creak open, the jockeys are mounting up, and the political track is rapidly becoming one of the most closely watched races in the territory.
Even though the track has been vacant for years, the NDP, VIP, PU, and PLM are all positioning themselves for what could become a fiercely contested battle. Behind the scenes, campaign machinery is being assembled, alliances are being tested, and the inevitable whispers about money, manpower, strategy, and political influence are growing louder.
And then there is the question on everyone's mind: Who will have the resources to stay in the race when the pace quickens? Rumors are already circulating about who will outspend whom, while political observers and the proverbial betting public are sizing up the field, studying the jockeys, examining the horses, and speculating about who has the stamina, strategy, and staying power to make it to the final stretch.
The race can be compared to the days of the great Actspectation, a Horse that crippled and crushed all competitors in the VI from 2019 to 2022. The Great Julian Fraiser has championed the tracks for many years, but his legs are becoming weak and shaky, but his mind remains sharp, steady and focused.
While the mind is willing the body is aging. But elections, like horse races, are rarely won at the starting gate. And a well-timed move down the final stretch can change the complexion of the entire race. For the contenders in the Third District, there will be no room for complacency.
Every constituency conversation could count. Every stop at the rum shops, church and funerals and Every campaign decision could determine who gains ground—in addition who gets left behind. The prize at the end of this political derby is nothing less than a seat at the table and, ultimately, a chance to claim the coveted Premier's Cup.
And the race for the Third District is officially getting interesting.
